Health & Fitness Friday – Easy, Everyday Changes

Every little bit helps!

Not looking for any extreme weight loss solutions? Want to maintain your current health/weight and/or looking to slowly but surely do good things for your body then here are some great tips!

HEALTH

This is a recipe for a great, metabolism-boosting drink. It’s pretty good, and it’s supposed to boost your metabolism by 12% after just one cup! All you need is 8 cups of bhealthrewed green tea, 1 tangerine sliced (I didn’t have one/they weren’t in season so I used a grapefruit), and a handful of mint leaves. Mix it all together and keep it in a large pitcher in the fridge. Drink 1 pitcher everyday throughout the day and it supposedly helps to keep up your metabolism! This is Dr Oz’s very own recipe he calls the Tangerine Weight-orade, it’s pretty good (much more flavourful than drinking 2 litres of plain water) and has so many benefits. It’s ALL natural! Health & Fitness Friday – Fab or Fad?

It’s ALL the rage!

I swear every time I check my emails I’ve got at least 1 telling me what “Doctor’s” have proven to be the number 1 weight loss solution!  Or that one “strange trick” that makes you lose 1 lb of belly fat a day?  Well, I don’t always believe everything I read, so sometimes it’s nice to just try it for yourself!  Or sometimes you just want to read the review of someone who’s already gone through the process 😉 … which is where I come in!

HEALTH – THE NETI POT

Maybe you’ve heard of the neti pot, healthmaybe not, but it’s basically this little teapot thing that you use to pour a warm water/salt solution through your nostrils to clear out your sinuses.  You may have seen it lately featured on Dr. OZ or Oprah, but it’s been around for centuries as part of a yoga medical tradition.  You can buy a Neti Pot at your local drug store, they’re not necessarily cheap (about $20 on average), but they work wonders.  Continue reading

Health & Fitness Friday – My Favourite!

That’s JUST what I needed!

Like I said last week, you should always make yourself happy!  This week I’m going to talk about how to find awesome healthy substitutes for your junk food cravings, and how to switch up your workout regime with something you love!

HEALTH

I’m a huge fan of finding awesome snack swaps, because I don’t like to deny myself what I crave, but I don’t want to indulge in a whole bag of chips either!  I want to satisfy the craving in the healthiest way possible without sacrificing taste, because when you do that, you don’t satisfy the craving, and then you just end up doing double the damage.  So here’s what I do:

Salty (Chips)      SOLUTION: Special K Cracker Chips.  OK, seriously, healththese things are BETTER than chips.  They’re absolutely delicious and they come in a variety of classic chip flavours like Original, Sour Cream & Onion (MY FAVE), and Cheddar.  An EASY swap, and totally satisfying, better than the real thing without the guilt!  Only 80 calories in 18 chips as opposed to about 150 in regular chips, that’s cutting your calories in HALF! Health & Fitness Friday – Face Masks and Hot Yoga

“It’s Like a Spa Day…but Funner!”

Hey everyone, my most recent health & fitness escapades have honestly felt more like going to the spa than anything else!  It’s been très relaxing, dahhhling 😉 hahaha, but seriously, I think it’s important to treat yourself well and keep yourself happy.  Being genuinely happy, I believe, is probably one of the best ways to be healthy.  You can have a body fat percentage of 6%, but if you’re not happy, it doesn’t really matter in the end, does it?  But I digress, treat yourself this week, you’ll thank yourself!  So this week I’m reviewing the Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment and Bikram Hot Yoga!

GLAM GLOW REVIEW!

glamglowAlright, I’ve been wanting to try this mask for a long time, ever since I read about it online at least 6 months ago.  Basically it’s described as “The world’s most scientifically advanced SUPERMUD clearing treatment.”  It’s supposed to treat all common problems like breakouts, discoloration, black and white heads, razor bumps, and in-grown hair. First of all, I was shocked by the colour of this product, it’s virtually a very dark grey with the occasional fleck of what looks like charcoal throughout. You apply a very thin even coat over your face, and wait for 20 minutes for the magic to happen. Continue reading

Health & Fitness Friday – Little Changes Can Make a Big Difference!

Every Little Bit Helps!

alg-fountain-soda-jpgI’m going to start with my “health” tip of the day, because I find I use it ALL of the time, and I’m sure it must be somewhat helpful!  So here it is, one of my most coveted secrets!  Whenever I am faced with the old fountain drink machine, I do this: fill my cup almost all the way with diet coke, and then top it up with a little bit of root beer.  The entire thing literally tastes like root beer, but without all the calories!  You can do it with Dr Pepper or cherry coke or anything you want, really.  I know some people don’t condone drinking diet soda, but you know what, at the end of the day, if you have diet soda once in a while, it’s not going to kill you (I mean, I can’t say that officially, but I don’t really care).  I do this all of the time, and it spices up your diet-pop-drinking lifestyle.

Picture 2Now for my fitness tip!  It’s not really a tip, but it’s one of my favourite ways to work out and has helped me a lot on my weight loss journey!  And what is this work-out?  Ballet!  I love to dance, and I find it more enjoyable than running or other types of cardio, so this is one of my favourite go-to work outs.  It’s not the easiest to find adult ballet classes, I was actually in a Musical Theatre program, so I was lucky to have at least 3 90-minute dance classes a week, but now that I’m graduated, an awesome tool to use is Youtube!  You can find all kinds of workouts on there.  Here’s one that I’ve used and have really enjoyed, it’s more of a work-out than a traditional ballet class, the Ultimate 20 Minute Barre Exercise Workout.

Hope you enjoy my tips/find them useful!  Just remember to take your personal health/fitness one day at a time, try to do one thing a day like saying no to that cookie you don’t REALLY care if you have, do some squats before bed, anything is better than nothing!
